Afro Dizzi Act is pleased to announce the release of their new EP 'Welcome Speech'. It was written as a reflection of our times whilst the band was touring throughout North East India. 'Welcome Speech' features pure world funk flavours. On the EP it is accompanied by dance floor starter 'Let Yourself Go' as remixed by Dave Dog (Resin Dogs) and a 9 minute psychedelic jam titled 'Rainbows'. Both 'Welcome Speech' and 'Let Yourself Go' are also released on an American pressed, limited edition vinyl 7" single, available exclusively through Butter Beats.
“Hypnotic, trancy beats that rise and fall with knowing intensity are complemented by pulsing rhythms and beautifully controlled didg textures. The album is deeply infused with low bass and dub sounds, but it’s the unique indigenous instruments and excerpts of vocalising that imbue Xenophon with such an unusual flavour. Understated brilliance. (4 stars)” Lauren Zoric. Rolling Stone, September 1998"
“Beautiful Thing” represents a whole different chapter of my life and rather than try to compare it to my first album or generalize about it’s style and content, I think I should just say: It’s full o’ music. Original music. There’ll be several songs you’ll like, one or two you’ll love and a few you might already know. It’s optimistic, it’s melancholic, it’s cheeky and it’s honest.
Sisters Melia and Nerida create a unique blend of sibling harmonies. A fresh new sound melding piano, keyboards, guitars, drums and occasional flute. Be charmed by their stunning harmonies, infectious melodies and poignant, provocative lyrics.
Independant folk-rock-blues-pop band The General Electryk formed busking on the streets of Byron Bay in 2008 and have since been writing songs for travelling folk, laced with French poésie. The band is comprised of Mélanie, a French-Canadian singer/songwriter and Angus Donnelly, the Australian drumming sensation, along with collaborators such as Jason Ryan, Marc D. Muir, Noureddine Ismag and Shem Aitken.
Ash Grunwald has been enjoying a phenomenal ride so far in 2005. Already this year has seen him take out the coveted ALBUM OF THE YEAR for his previous release, I Don't Believe, at the 2005 Australian Blues Awards; complete a national Triple j tour with the fabulous Jeff Lang; and receive stellar reviews for his latest offering LIVE AT THE CORNER.
Born Jan 20 1979 in Michigan, USA and transported to Australia as a baby where I lived until 2004. I studied a Bachelor of Music in jazz trumpet with the great John Hoffman and a Master of Music Studies in Composition @ the QLD Conservatorium of Music.
This EP is a culmination of music spirit which has surged, ebbed and flowed in me and with others for years. It is a reflection of a time and space, an energy both harmonious and chaotic, light as it is dark. It is dedicated to the musicians Carl Hemmings, Michael Huddleston and Bill Coupland.
Ever since 2002, local Sydney artist Ash Grunwald has been bringing Roots and Blues to a whole new generation along with the likes of the John Butler Trio. In 2006, Grunwald is back with his fourth album, Give Signs. The album features twelve original tracks recorded live and solo, showcasing the performer's fine talent and his growth as a musician and songwriter.
Solo Alternate Roots powerhouse, Dallas Frasca, didnt start singing until she was 19 years old. Ten years on, Frascas mighty soul-voice resonates through venues, stereos, and radio stations across Australia. Frasca has sung in an array of bands from metal to funk. Her passion and the natural gutsy tone in her voice always lead her back to roots music. Frasca became an original member of Blues-rock band Trevors House.
